07/13/2010 Textbook on deep-sea biodiversity
Active ImageThe final year of the Census of Marine Life is marked by a host of new publications and media of all kinds for scientists, students, and the general public. A textbook on deep-sea biodiversity by Michael Rex and Ron Etter, located at the University of Massachusetts Boston, both serving on the Scientific Steering Committee of CeDAMar, appeared earlier this year and can be purchased through Harvard University Press. The book is dedicated to two great pioneers of deep-sea research, Bob Hessler and Howard Sanders. It covers biodiversity in the deep sea both in space- (on local to global scales) and time (evolutionary aspects). It is richly illustrated, including more than 30 color photographs, and is a most welcome update of knowledge on the biodiversity of deep-sea fauna. Many results of CeDAMar related research are included.
