Meeting of the DESEO team (education and outreach team of CoML deep-sea projects) just completed in Bergen, Norway discussing travelling deep-sea exhibit "Deeper than Light" and accompanying book.
The education and outreach team DESEO, which includes members of CeDAMar, MAR-Eco, ChESS, CoMargE, and EuroCoML, met for two days last week in Bergen to visit the exhibition “Deeper than Light”, initiated by MAR-Eco and to be augmented by the other CoML deep-sea projects, and to continue work on the accompanying book with the same title. Paul Tyler, Myriam Sibuet, and Peter Boyle were nice enough to contribute introductory and summarising chapters, and the remainder of the book is written by the DESEO members. It is planned to be a high-class hard cover book of about 80 pages, consisting of factual text on the different habitats and technology to explore them and stories highlighting special living conditions of the deep sea. Illustrations conveying the hidden beauty of the deep sea, both photographic images and paintings, will be the second major focus aside from the text which will be free of technical terms but scientifically correct and educational.
The exhibition will be officially inaugurated in Bergen on 27 March and then travel to Porto (Portugal) on 1 June. Other locations are Lisbon (Portugal) right after Porto, Genua (Italy) in October, and Aberdeen in March 2008. Even more are in the pipeline!
